ABOUT US

Three generations born and bred in the Kalahari

Kgalagadi Lifestyle Lodge features 32 strategically placed chalets, offering a variety of accommodation options including family, luxury, standard, and business chalets, as well as 15 four-star campsites. The on-site restaurant, Black Mane Butcher & Grill, founded by owner SJ Koortzen, serves only the finest quality meats — including game — alongside burgers, pies, artisanal sandwiches, and gourmet pizzas, providing delicious meals to suit every palate. Guests can also visit the on-site grocery shop, Black Mane On-the-Go, which offers convenient takeaway meals for travellers passing through the Kalahari. Since February 2025, both the restaurant and the grocery shop have partnered with Kalahari Explore to operate the on-site grocery shop, Black Mane On-the-Go and on-site restaurant, Black Mane Butcher & Grill to further enhance the experience for guests and travellers in the area. In addition, the lodge operates its own 4×4 rental service, Oryx 4×4, allowing visitors to explore the many attractions the Kalahari region has to offer.

Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park

The desert transforms into a green oasis

Kgalagadi Lifestyle Lodge offers accommodation near the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park. Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park is a large wildlife preserve and conservation area in Southern Africa. The total area of the park is 38,000 square kilometres (15,000 sq mi) and approximately three-quarters of the park lies in Botswana and one-quarter in South Africa.

The park has abundant, varied wildlife. It is home to large mammalian predators such as lions, cheetahs, African leopards, and hyenas. Migratory herds of large herbivores such as blue wildebeest, springbok, eland, and red hartebeest also live and move seasonally within the park, providing sustenance for the predators. More than 200 species of bird can be found in the park, including vultures and raptors such as eagles, buzzards, and secretary birds.

Social Responsibility

The Koortzen family has become inextricably involved in the local community

Over the years the Koortzen family has become inextricably involved in the local community owing to the fact that so many locals have worked and still work for the family.

Pictured are Denise and S.J. Koortzen planting trees at the local school on Earth Day – just one of the many projects that they are involved in.
